Brand identity for an award-winning food justice advocate.

About The Client

Tanya Denise fields is a mother, chef, food justice activist, environmentalist, and all around bad-ass feminist living and working in the South Bronx.  She is passionate about healthy living and about making good food and healthy environments accessible to low-income and working class Black mothers.  She founded a non-profit called The BLK Projek, runs an urban farm called Libertad Urban Farm, operates a mobile produce market called The South Bronx Mobile Market, and also stars in her own cooking show, Mama Tanya’s Kitchen.  Ms. Fields is also a talented public speaker and frequently lectures on food, breastfeeding, mothering, and health.

OUr Work

We’ve worked with Tanya many times for various graphics and were very pleased when she approached us to help her brand her cooking show, Mama Tanya’s Kitchen.   We went through several different logo directions before deciding on a plan.  Tanya and her producers originally wanted a logo in her physical image, but the Haki team thought this wasn’t a smart choice.  However, after consideration and market research, we decided to pursue this option and gleefully created an illustration that honors Tanya and her magnetic energy.

As displayed below, various treatments were created to suit the mediums on which the logo will be displayed.  For the full version above, we used solid text.  On the typographical logo, we created some texture to add some depth.
