About The Client
Elle Hearns is a veteran human rights defender and experienced organizer who has lead some of the most important protests in recent years. She is an advocate for both Black and LGBTQ civil rights and is an award-winning activist. After serving as a strategic partner to the Black Lives Matter Global network, she embarked on a national speaking career as a predecessor to her new role as Executive Director of the Marsha P. Johnson Institute, an advocacy organization representing Black transgender and gender-non-conforming people.
For her personal website, we were solicited for the large task of finding an authentic way to represent Elle’s multi-faceted personality. She is an art lover who is bold and ferocious, yet she appreciates clean lines, sultry fashion, and graceful femininity. We crafted identity and a digital space that reflects who Elle is and honors the work she has done, utilizing classic colors and words from those she has touched.
Positioning & Analysis
As a strategist, Elle often fills in the blanks for her clients, and connects seemingly contrary ideas to create smooth cohesion. Her clients say she brings forth what is hidden. Inspired by this, we thought of the ellipsis as it symbolizes what is considered superfluous. This is the space that Elle’s work occupies. She helps her clients see how “extraneous” knowledge is relevant.
